November 16, 2013 - Kelly Clarkson Mourns Death of Her ‘Best Friend,’ Dog Joplin Filed under:News
ess than a month after what was certainly one of the best days of
Kelly Clarkson’s life, the newlywed experienced what was sure to be one
of her worst.
“My best friend died yesterday,” the singer, 31, announced on Twitter
Friday of her adopted dog’s passing, saying, “Joplin was special. He
fought his whole life to survive & now he can rest. I loved him.”
Clarkson thought she lost her BFF almost two years ago, when Joplin ran away on New Year’s Eve.
“I lost it … and started bawling when [my sister] told me [the dog
was missing],” she shared. “Seriously, I was so dramatic … but I don’t
have children and [my dogs] are my babies that I sleep with every

September 16, 2013 - People.com – Kelly Clarkson Trades Bridal Duties for a Trip to Peru Filed under:News, Videos
Kelly Clarkson’s voice has taken her all around the world – but her dance moves are another story.
Clarkson, 31, recently visited coffee farms and performed a special set for farmers and their families in Peru.
“It was so funny cause I didn’t know if they were gonna like my
songs. They would sing along, I think we did like a mini-set for them,
so we did a few songs down there. They were dancing, it was just so
cool! I felt like I was just in a movie,” Clarkson tells PEOPLE of the
performance. “I was dancing with them!”
Her trip, part of Green Mountain Coffee’s Great Coffee, Good Vibes,
Choose Fair Trade campaign, was an eye-opening experience for Clarkson.
“I didn’t know that a lot of them didn’t have electricity,” she says.
“That’s the one cool thing that was for me to learn with this
opportunity, [through Fair Trade] they have more opportunity with their
whole community. They have more education and more access to
electricity. It’s a better way to further the community. I felt like I
was actually making a difference, which is something I think we all want
to be a part of.”
While the acoustic performance brought Clarkson’s audience to their
feet, the singer says she couldn’t quite keep up with their moves.
“I couldn’t do their steps,” Clarkson confesses. “I was totally not
Beyoncé. They all had these cute dances they were doing together… I just
started doing the sprinkler and the running man.”
But when it comes to dancing on her big day – her upcoming nuptials
to fiancé Brandon Blackstock – the singer has the perfect song all
“We’re bringing our own vinyl player and we’re doing it that way. Eva
Cassidy is like my favorite, and her song ‘Songbird’ so we’re probably
gonna slow dance alone to it,” she says.
Though she says the couple is “already basically married,” she’s
ready to start the next stage of her life with Blackstock by her side.
“We live together. We have a house together. We have the two kids who
live with us. We’re already kind of a family. But I think that it just
kind of puts it in place. When you get married, it’s like official.
You’re starting a family and we want to have more children, so we’re
just excited. I guess that’s the best part, it’s a new kind of chapter
in my life.”
In celebration of Fair Trade Month (October), Clarkson will perform a
private concert at the High Line Ballroom in New York on Oct. 10.
Viewers can tune in to watch a livestream on Green Mountain Coffee’s
Facebook page at 8:30 p.m. EST.

August 22, 2013 - Kelly Clarkson Plans to Elope with Brandon Blackstock Filed under:News
There will be no grandiose wedding affair for Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock.
Despite original plans for an “earthy” outdoor fall wedding at home,
the “Catch My Breath” singer, 31, revealed to PEOPLE on Wednesday, “We
are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were
like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so
overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
Explains Clarkson: “We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking.”
“Then honestly the planning – I have a Christmas record coming out.
I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now (the singer is
teaming up with the insurance company to educate kids about safe
driving). We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all
these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and
[Brandon]‘s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country
music. He’s flying everywhere.”
When the musically inclined pair finally made their decision about
how to say “I do,” they “sent out an engagement photo to everyone and
said, ‘Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me
and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,’ ” Clarkson says.
And even after they elope, an extravagant fête is the furthest thing from their minds.
“Our whole life is a celebration,” the former American Idol winner
says. “That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day
where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the
time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather
have an intimate moment that’s special.’
But that doesn’t mean their lives will be soirée-free.
“We’re going to do that anyway,” she says. “Our friend is throwing us
[a party] because we’re about to wrap up construction at our house.
He’s throwing us a huge stock the bar party, so all of the people who
were going to be at our wedding will be there.”
How Their Love Story Inspired Her New Video
Big wedding or small, the idea of walking down the aisle seems to be on Clarkson’s mind.
In the new music video for her song, “Tie It Up,” several happy
couples wed while Clarkson rocks out onstage and belts out lyrics like,
“Let’s set the date/let’s hire the band/let’s cut the cake/tie up the
cans … ”
The singer proudly shows off her own engagement ring in the video and
can be seen wearing a white dress – though it’s not clear if it’s a
wedding dress. But one thing is obvious: Clarkson appears to be very
excited about tying the knot herself – so excited that the video ends
with her catching the bouquet!
Of the video, she explains, “One of my really good friends was with
me when I first met Brandon years ago, so she and another one of my
friends wrote this cool song that deals with our whole story, so we went
to this really beautiful barn in Franklin, Tenn., and all of the people
in the video are friends or friends of friends. We were like, ‘We’re
going to have this fake wedding reception.’

August 20, 2013 - Kelly Clarkson on Step-Parenthood: I ‘Really Dig the Mom Thing’ Filed under:News
Kelly Clarkson isn’t set to wed music manager Brandon Blackstock
for another two months, but she is already relishing one aspect of her
soon-to-be-married life: step-parenthood.
“I have a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old now … after being single for
six years,” the singer, 31, told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, On Air
with Ryan Seacrest, Tuesday.
“We all live together and everything,” she explains. “It’s so
different, but it’s perfect. They’re awesome, and I actually really dig
the mom thing.”
But don’t expect Clarkson to be an overindulgent stepmom. Just like
her lyrics repeatedly demonstrate, she is no pushover. (Perhaps that’s
one reason she has teamed up with State Farm to educate teens about safe
“I’m quick to go, ‘I told you not to touch that!’ ” she said with a
laugh. “We all work really well together, but I’m totally my mom. My mom
was a hard mom. I’m probably that mom.”
Clarkson will officially earn the title “stepmother” in late October
when she swaps vows with Blackstock at their Nashville home.
The Stronger singer has long made it clear she will be a laid-back
bride, and it appears she’s becoming increasingly blasé as the wedding
“I’m so over it. It’s so overwhelming,” she admitted to Seacrest.
“We’re just doing a lot: touring and the wedding and the Christmas album
[out Oct. 29], so I’m over the wedding part.”
But one thing’s for sure: she is nowhere near over Blackstock.
“It’s not a try-hard situation,” she says of their relationship.
“It’s just easy. It’s work – after a year and a half that puppy phase
[is over] and reality starts to set in – but it’s fun work. We’re very
similar. It’s easy.”
